Households

Running one subscription across two countries

How device slots work when a household is split between addresses, what to give a parent overseas, and how to keep one renewal date for everybody.

One slot means one screen at a time

A device slot allows a single connection. Put the same details into a television in one country and a laptop in another and the two will take turns refusing each other, because the second connection is declined while the first is live.

This is why the fault seems to come and go for no reason. Nothing changed on your side. Somebody several thousand miles away sat down in front of a television.

What an extra slot gives you

Each slot is a completely separate set of details rather than a shared login with a higher ceiling. They behave independently and simply happen to expire on the same day.

That separation is the point when a household is spread out. You can hand one set to a parent abroad without giving them access to anything of yours, and if their box has trouble it does not touch your evening.

Setting up for somebody who will not troubleshoot

For a relative who would rather not think about any of it, a MAG box is the gentlest option. There is no login screen, no password to mistype and nothing to re-enter after a power cut. You send us the MAC address once and it simply works.

Set the time zone to their country before you post it. That is the one setting they will not be able to fix over the phone, and it is the one that makes the guide look broken.

Keeping one renewal date

Buy the slots together and they share an expiry, so there is one payment and one reminder for the whole family. Adding a slot later is possible at any time and does not disturb the lines you already have, though the dates then need aligning if you want them tidy.

Renew from your account rather than placing a fresh order. A new order under a different email address creates a separate subscription, which is the usual reason somebody pays and finds their parent still cut off.

Not quite your situation?

Send your order number, the device you are on and the country you are in. A person reads it, and the third detail is usually the one that solves it.
