Strong 8K World on Amazon Fire TV Stick
Small enough to live in hand luggage and cheap enough to leave at a second address. The setup takes a few minutes and the only fiddly part is the first download.
Before you start
- A Fire TV Stick on any Wi-Fi network
- Your Strong 8K World login details
- The Amazon account the stick was registered to
Open the developer settings
The stick will not install anything from outside Amazon until you allow it. The switch lives under Settings, My Fire TV, Developer Options, and is worded as installing unknown apps. If that menu is missing entirely, go to Settings, My Fire TV, About and tap the model name seven times, which puts it back.
Install Downloader
Downloader is a free tool in the Amazon store and it does one job: it fetches an install file for you. You need it because the player we use is not sold through Amazon, so there is nothing to install directly.
Fetch the player
Open Downloader, type the code shown on our Downloads page, and press Go. When the file finishes, choose Install, then delete the downloaded file when it offers, because a Fire Stick has very little room.
Sign in with Xtream
In the player, add an account using the Xtream Codes option and copy across the server address, username and password shown on your account page. Capital letters are not optional. The first load takes a minute while the whole list comes down.
Set your clock before the guide builds
In the Fire TV settings, check that the time zone matches the country you are actually in. Do this before the guide finishes building, otherwise every programme time will be out by a fixed number of hours and it looks like a fault when it is not.
Worth knowing
- A stick bought in one country works in another. Change the time zone and, if you want the interface language to follow, the language setting too.
- If the stick asks for the Wi-Fi password of your old home network on a new one, hold the home button, choose Settings, Network, and forget the old entry.
- Sticks that have been plugged in for weeks get slow. Pulling the power for ten seconds clears more problems than any setting does.
